In the city of Lagos train station is located across the river, 15 minutes' walk from the centre via, the bus station is a bit closer in, a block back from the main Avenida. The tourist office is inconveniently located around 15 minutes from the centre on the first main roundabout on the Portimao road (summer daily 9.30am to 12.30pm and 2 to 5.30pm, winter closed Sat pm & Sun; tel 282 763 031).

There are several economical private rooms around of (£10,$14,€18), however the tourist office recommends 2 pensions, one of them the Pensão Caravela at Rua 25 de Abril 16 (tel 282 763 361; £15,£24,€27) and the Residencial Mar Azul , nearby at no. 13 (tel 282 769 143; £20,$32,€36).

In the centre of city there are several restaurants. Some of the better ones are the cheap, good quality fish and shellfish places by the market. The restaurant Cantinho Algarvio , Rua Afonso d'Almeida 17, has a wide range of Algarve dishes at good prices.

Dom Sebastiano, is among the town's finest restaurants, where the meals cost around €20. There are everyday buses . Many of them call at the train station just after the arrival of the trains.
