Sports in Coimbra
The Association Academica of Coimbra O.A.F. (known simply as Académica), a professional football autonomous organism of the University of Coimbra students was founded in 1872. Académica football team plays in the Bwinliga at the Estadio Cidade de Coimbra( The soccer Club of Coimbra), another sports club with tradition in the city, owner of a football team which plays in the Portuguese Second Division, is other important club of Coimbra.
Actually in the University of Coimbra includes also sections dedicated to a wide array of sports such as rugby, rowing, basketball, swimming, handball, baseball, tennis, rink hockey, volleyball, among many others.
