Évora Travel Guide

Evora practicalities

Bus station and train station Located about a kilometre out of the old town, however there are regular green buses from the former that run to Giraldo Square, centre of Évora's surprisingly lively social scene.

Here you can find the tourist office (Summer Mon - Fri 9am to 7pm, Sat and Sun 9am to 12.30pm and 2 to 5.30pm; Winter daily 9am to 12.30pm and 2 to 5.30pm, telephone 266-702-671) and a couple of outdoor cafés.

Also, if you are looking for comfort try the converted sixteenth-century mansion Solar Monfalim , at Largo da Misericórdia 1 (tel 266 750 000; £20-25/$32-40/€36-45). If you're stuck for a room, the tourist office will sometimes arrange accommodation in private homes.

The campsite (telephone 266-705-190) is a couple of kilometres out of city on the Alcáçovas road; bus #5 goes there 8 times daily from Giraldo Square (except Sunday).

There are several Restaurants in the centre: for inexpensive food try Adego do Neto, Rua dos Mercadores 46 or the homely O Portão , on Rua do Cano alongside the aqueduct. For slightly more you could sample the outstanding Italian food at the enormously popular bread and Vino , Patio do Salema (entrance on Rua Diogo Focardo).
